ROTTEN TOMATOES / by Megan Hollingsworth

Nothing measures generosity outlived like the sun shines.

Long for every child. Grant

each one a halo at birth, a golden

crown to grow into and let not

the child's size interest nor offering be given

in exchange for the child's sustenance. The child starves

on a belly full of gold.

Let sustenance be traded for sustenance, the currency

be a vine ripe tomato

or a rose in full bloom, something

that when captured becomes

a stinking pile of rotten flesh

or a dried up false blossom

Money/Currency is energy. Energy wants to move even when at rest. Hoarding money is like hoarding tomatoes. Even if preserved, when money sits too long, money grows rotten. Share money as you would your garden tomatoes with those who have no garden by giving them some tomatoes, a tomato plant, healthy soil and seed. Give those in need enough money to relieve their immediate hunger and get them started growing their own.
